NFL Week 1 observations

The first week of the NFL season is in the books and you really couldn’t ask for much more. You had some surprises to go along with some memorable moments in an exciting opening week of play. Let’s start with the most impressive performance.

Rodgers brings back the Packers

What a kick to the guts the Bears received on Sunday night. Rodgers gets injured in the first quarter and the Bears take a 20-0 lead on the Packers. The Packers spotted the Bears 20 points and they still couldn’t come away with the win. Aaron Rodgers did what Aaron Rodgers does. No task to big or too small for that bad man. It is as if we all knew Rodgers would bring them back. We were all just waiting for when it would happen. Brady is the most accomplished QB of this era, but Rodgers is the most talented. As long as he’s healthy, the Packers are a Super Bowl contender.

Sam Darnold and the Jets impress in Detroit

Wasn’t quite the start Sam Darnold was looking for, but damn did he bounce back in a big way. After throwing a pick six on his first career pass, he looked sharp and accurate the rest of the night. Leading the way for the Jets as they blew out the Lions on Monday night. The Jets looked great in all three phases of the game. If you are looking for a surprise team this year, look no further than the Jets. As we saw last night, a quarterback can make a world of difference.

Not the same old Browns

There was something different about the Browns on Sunday. The old Browns would have never showed the fight they did in coming back down two scores in the 4th quarter. Granted, the Steelers practically gave them the game and the Browns still couldn’t win. However, they didn’t lose the game, which is a step in the right direction for a team that has done its fair share of losing the last couple seasons. Browns won’t be a playoff team, but six or seven wins shouldn’t surprise anyone if they remain healthy.

Even with Saquon, Giants offense looks shaky

The Giants offense added Saquon Barkley, and the Giants offense still looked awful. If it wasn’t for the explosiveness of Saquon, they wouldn’t have even gotten into double digit points. They had all offseason to take care of their offensive line woes and it looks like the line will still be a problem. They have the star power on offense. Eli just needs time to get them ball and Saquon needs holes to run through. Should they ever figure out the offensive line issues, the Giants will become a dangerous team.
