Eagles keep season on life support

The Eagles season has felt like it’s been on life support all year. It seems that they are always that one loss away from their season ending. In a sense, they keep delaying the inevitable which is them not making it into the playoffs. A loss to the Redskins would have ended the season. Despite Adrian Peterson’s career long TD run in the 2nd quarter, the game never seemed in doubt once Mark Sanchez relieved an injured Colt McCoy. The Redskins have become a shell of the team they were when they were 6-2 and atop the division. Injuries have crippled the Redskins all over the field.

It is hard to really gauge how the Eagles performed last night. They went up against Mark Sanchez for crying out loud. I still get the feeling anyone better than Sanchez or McCoy could’ve had their way with the Eagles secondary. You sort of take what the defense did yesterday with a grain of salt. Although offensively, we saw a lot of positive things.

I thought the Eagles ran the ball well against a very talented Redskins d-line. Josh Adams continued to run well and is showing why he has become the featured back over the last few weeks. Golden Tate finally had a Golden Tate type game. It was by far his best game in an Eagles uniform. You can clearly see him and Wentz starting to build chemistry out there. If the Eagles shock the world and make the playoffs, the emergence of Golden Tate will be a big reason why.

As it stands now, the Eagles have a chance to move into first place with a win over the Cowboys in Dallas Sunday. It is a game that the Eagles can win. They have more than a punchers chance. However, they will still need help to make the playoffs even if they earn a win. They would need help because the Eagles aren’t going to LA and beating the Rams. The Eagles would need the Cowboys to drop another game or two against the Colts, Bucs or Giants. I say “or two” because it is far from a guarantee the Eagles beat the Texans in Philly week 16. If you are looking for a silver lining in all of this, at least the Eagles are still playing meaningful football games this late into what seemed like a lost season.
