Willy Adames hit a grand slam and Landen Roupp pitched seven innings of two-hit ball as the San Francisco Giants returned from the All-Star break with a 7-0 victory against the host Seattle Mariners in the opener of a three-game interleague series Friday night.
Bryce Eldridge added a two-run shot for the Giants, who won their third game in a row to tie their season-long winning streak.
Roupp (7-8) allowed a two-out single to Josh Naylor in the fourth inning and a leadoff single to Luke Raley in the fifth. The right-hander walked three batters and struck out two.
It was scoreless until the fifth inning. With one out, the Giants’ Drew Cavanaugh lined a single to right. An out later, Eldridge deposited an 0-1 splitter from Mariners starter Bryce Miller (4-4) over the fence in right-center field to make it 2-0.
The Giants added an unearned run in the sixth. Heliot Ramos grounded a leadoff single into left field. Jung Hoo Lee grounded to first baseman Naylor, with Ramos forced out at second, but shortstop Colt Emerson’s throw to Miller covering first was errant and Lee advanced to second.
With two outs, Drew Gilbert was hit by a pitch and the Mariners brought in left-hander Jose A. Ferrer to face Cavanaugh, who walked to load the bases. Luis Arraez hit a bouncer that second baseman Cole Young bobbled for an error, allowing San Francisco to take a 3-0 lead.
The Giants pulled away in the seventh. Casey Schmitt led off by lining a single to left off reliever Nick Davila. An out later, Ramos grounded a single to left and Lee was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Adames hit an 0-1 slider over the fence in right-center to extend the lead to 7-0.
Miller gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked one and fanned six.
